Therapy-Facilitating Assessment (TFA) (TM) this assessment is performed as a consultation to treating therapists. The focus is to better understand the cognitive, personality, and social factors of clients to help therapists better understand the cognitive and personality factors affecting the issues that brought their client to therapy, the impasses experienced, and suggested efficacious interventions. Areas assessed include cognitive style, temperament, coping style, and social factors, including family, friends, and school. Reasons for such an assessment may be to (1) help with diagnosis of psychiatric disorders, such as anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and personality disorders and (2) assist mental health professionals to ascertain underlying psychodynamics to clarify therapy issues and more quickly and effectively guide and implement treatment plans. Interviews, observations, objective personality measures, performance-based tests, and rating scales all may be part of this assessment. Research has shown that assessment contributes to therapy outcome [Psychological Assessment as a Protective Factor against Treatment Dropout in Psychoanalytic Child Psychotherapy of Children: Empirical Data.
